Towbar Options
Fixed Flange
A Fixed Flange Towbar is generally the most cost effective option, and is the most commonly used in the UK. The tow ball is attached to the tow bar using either two or four 24mm bolts, and it can be used with tow ball mounted accessories ie cycle carriers, bumper protectors etc, which are mounted between the towbar and ball.
Fixed Swan Neck
Fixed Swan Neck Towbars are often used outside of the UK. They are the less adaptable than Flange towbars as they cannot be used with additional accessories. Cycle carriers are available, however they cannot be used whilst towing. They look more discrete compared to a fixed flange and are less likely to interfere with reversing sensors.
Detachable Swan Neck
The Detachable Swan Neck Towbar is similar to the Fixed Swan Neck and although a cycle carrier can be used, they cannot tow at the same time. Many fitments are completely hidden when the neck is removed so therefore look the neatest and will not interfere with reversing sensors. This is the most popular fitment.
Towbar Electrics
7 pin electrics are the most basic towbar electrics providing road lights only (excluding reverse lights). These are mainly used for lighting boards, trailers and some cycle carriers.
7 Pin electrics
13 Pin electrics are now the most common type of towbar electrics as it is the European standard. These provide full road lights and 12v feeds on pin 9 for ATC and pin 10 for fridge and auxiliary charging. Adapters are available to convert to the older style “twin” 7 pin electrics. It is recommended to have 13 pin electrics installed as adapters are available to go back to 7 pin if needed.

Dedicated Electrics
Dedicated electrics are vehicle specific and are fitted in line with vehicle manufacture standards. Many kits are coded into the vehicle to activate safety and convenience features such as parking sensor cut off, stability control, blind spot monitoring and bulb failure. It is important to have dedicated electrics fitted if the vehicle is covered by manufacture warranty as fitting a towbar without may void warranty. Dedicated electrics are available in both 7 or 13 pin.
